Dorothy Beach Obituary
Dorothy Marie (Hegdal) Beach Dorothy was the youngest of three children. Her brother Jack, sister Virginia and Dorothy were born to John and Marie Hegdal in El Dorado, Kansas; Dorothy was born on Oct. 22, 1923. Dorothy graduated from El Dorado High School in 1941 and attended El Dorado Jr. College.
While attending El Dorado Jr. College she was recruited by Curtis Wright Aeronautical Engineering and sent to Purdue University as an Engineering Cadet in 1943. She was then sent to Hickam Field Hawaii in their Engineering Department. Upon completion of WWII in 1945 Dorothy returned to the U.S. and attended the University of Kansas as a Social Science major.
At the University of Kansas she met her husband to be, Richard, and they were married on April 2, 1947. Dorothy graduated from KU with a degree in Social Science in 1948 and she and Richard had twin sons, Christopher Scott and Douglas Clinton, born July 6, 1949 and a daughter, Alison on January 30, 1954. After living in Denver, Cheyene, Wyoming, Ponca City, Oklahoma and Chicago, Dorothy and family moved to Houston in 1954 with Conoco.
Following moves to Ft. Worth and Teheran, Iran, the family returned to Houston in Clear Lake, TX. In retirement, they sailed to Florida for several years. Then In 1999 they moved to Georgetown, TX and lived in Sun City. They continued traveling the U.S from coast to coast in a Recreational Vehicle that Dorothy especially enjoyed.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Richard of sixty-seven years; her children and their families, Chris and his wife Siti of Houston, TX; Doug and his wife Barbie of San Antonio, TX and Alison Barker and her husband Steve of San Antonio, and six great-grandchildren. Visitation is at Porter Loring Funeral Home on McCullough from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, June 27, 2014. There will be a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church Georgetown, 703 S. Church Street, Georgetown, TX on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 11:00 am.
