Elaine Byron Cominsky, 90, passed away on January 15, 2014. Known affectionately as "Baby Doll" to many and "Bubbe" to others, Elaine was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse educator. Throughout her life, nursing was her passion. She was a leader in associate degree nursing education at San Jacinto College and throughout the State of Texas preparing thousands of women and men to follow in her caring footsteps as registered nurses.

She was always loyal to her alma mater, the University of Texas Medical Branch School, of Nursing in Galveston, where she was honored on many occasions for her accomplishments. She was active in a host of community and educational organizations over the years and leaves a legacy of distinguished community service.
Elaine was preceded in death by her sweet and loving husband, E. M. "Bruce" Cominsky. She is survived by her son, Martin, and his wife, Terry, by her beautiful twin grandchildren, Sarah and Rachel and by many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.
Heartfelt appreciation goes to Marilyn and Herman Litt, Dr. Kurt Merkelz, her special friend Marlene Dyer, and the Bayou Manor and Hallmark staffs especially Adonias, Anne, June, Eze and David who provided special care to her throughout the years.
Services will be held Thursday at 2:30 PM at the Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember her generous spirit and life may contribute to the Elaine Byron Cominsky Advancement Scholarship in the School of Nursing, 301 University, Galveston, Texas, 77555-0148 or to the Music Fund at Congregation Emanu El in honor of Cantor Vadim Tunitsky, 1500 Sunset Blvd, Houston, TX 77005.
