Ernest Eugene
Adams, Jr. of College Station died peacefully in his home at the age of 81, on October 31, 2013. His memorial service will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Hillier Funeral Home, 2301 E. 29th Street, Bryan, Texas. A graveside service will follow at the College Station City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Louis Adams, Barton Adams, Brent Gilpin, Kirby Castilla, and Keith Castilla. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Aldrich, Steve Aldrich, Jim Keblinger, and Guy McShan.
Ernest Eugene was born on November 23, 1931 to Ernest Eugene Adams, Sr. and Ida Mae (Day) Adams near Bedias, Texas. He graduated from Iola High School in 1948 and worked with the survey crew for Texas A&M during the construction of various projects, including the original golf course and the Beef Cattle Center. He entered the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea, where he proudly served his country assigned to the 440th Signal Aviation Battalion, providing communication services and support to the Fifth Air Force Headquarters in Seoul, Korea. After returning from Korea, he was stationed in El Paso, Texas, until his honorable discharge from the service. He married his first wife, Bobbie Gilpin Adams, and moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked for Continental Emsco for several years, then began his career at Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation in Houston, where he worked in various positions until retiring as Manager of Construction Contracts in 1992.
Ernest Eugene is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry James Adams. He is survived by his second wife of 24 years, Kay J. Adams; son, Barton Eugene Adams of Fort Worth, Texas and daughter, Cheryl Lynn Adams of Houston, Texas; a grandson, Louis Eugene Adams and wife Lauren of Frisco, Texas, a granddaughter, Kristin Adams of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Mary Louise Modesett of Cody, Wyoming; a sister, Dorothy Stone of Bryan, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family appreciates the remarkable kindness of his oncologist, Dr. Ramon E. Rodriguez and his radiologist, Dr. Yadvindera (Bobby) Bains.
