Federico "Cas" Casanova Jimenez, 53, passed away on the 3rd April 2013 at his home in Houston from a heart attack. He is survived by his mother, father and step mother, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was born in New York City on a sunny Saturday on the 11th of July 1959 .The family moved to Houston in 1965. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1977, he then attended and studied at St. Thomas and San Marcos Universities. In 1979, he joined the U.S Navy and received an honorable release from active duty in 1983.
He was then transferred to Naval Reserve and served until September 1985.
He enjoyed and loved his years in active duty, graduating as a Radio expert operator and sailed on the USN Helicopter carrier 'New Orleans'. After two years of active duty on that ship, he was stationed in Subic Bay in the Philippines.
After his service in the Navy, he joined the USN Reserve Center in New Orleans, La. During that time, he flew different planes acting as radio operator.
In 1986, he joined McLean Cargo, a Freight Forwarding Company and began studies to be certified as a hazardous material expert for international freight. A couple of years later, the company had a Central American operation chartering Cargo planes, twice a week and Federico was asked to fly back and forth with those planes, supervising the business, and doing an outstanding job.
After the contract was finished, Federico, started his own company, Houston HazMat, which was very highly recognized in the Houston Area.
Federico had a most generous spirit and was full of humor. He was also a great outdoorsman and fishing was his passion.
Honoring his wishes and his great love for the sea, his ashes will be disposed of by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Friends are cordially invited to join the family for a memorial service to honor and celebrate his life at six o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 30th of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests, with gratitude, that contribution's in Federico's name be directed to The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030.
