Gayle Vicic Obituary
Gayle Jack Vicic, 91, passed away November 22, 2013. He was born August 3, 1922 in Sugarland, TX. He is preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Christine, and parents Jack Joseph and Fannie. He is survived by his only son Billy, grandchildren Billy, Jr. & wife Julie, Luke, Michael, Jack, and Melanie, great-grandsons Jackson and Harrison, as well as a host of friends.
After graduating from Sugarland High School Jack was recruited by Southern Methodist University where he received a full athletic scholarship and was a star basketball player. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He remained a member of the alumni association until his death. Following college he entered the United States Navy where he served during World War II. He was awarded the Navy Air Medal for meritorious achievement in aerial flight as a radio gunner in a Navy SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber.
In addition, he was awarded two bronze stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal for WWII. He was also a Master Mason in the 32º Scottish Rite with 50+ years of membership, a Shriner, an Admiral in the Texas Navy, and a member of The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Outside of the Navy he was a respected and successful businessman in the field of Insurance and owner of Advantage Insurance.
More than anything Jack Vicic was a natural born storyteller, an avid hunter, a loyal friend, fierce enemy, devoted husband, and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His sense of humor was that of legend and something even strangers could not escape. Two weeks before passing he was still placing bets at Sam Houston Race Track and drinking whiskey. He died with dignity and will live on in the hearts of his family and through the many stories they have to tell of him.
If you would like to listen to them or share one of your own the family will be having a viewing on Monday November 25, 2013 from 5-7PM. The funeral service will be held at 10AM on Tuesday November 26, 2013. Both events will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home.
