H.H. (Hank) Simons passed away peacefully on March 13, 2013. He was a native Houstonian, born on January 25, 1921. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School where he participated in sports and played trumpet in the band, he attended the University of Texas. From there he entered the U.S. Naval Reserve to become a pilot in the Naval Air Corps. He later completed his education and spent a few years in Venezuela with Gulf Oil Company. After his return he became a sales representative for several construction companies.
He was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and for 20 years as a volunteer with Adult Plus, an outreach ministry for older adults. Also important in his church life was his membership in the Fellowship Class where his many contributions and cherished relationships were valued by all. Hank loved the outdoors, especially hunting with his "buddies," and was an enthusiastic football fan with an avid devotion to his Texas Longhorns. Outstanding in memories of Hank will be his artistic sketches and cartoons and his mischievous sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Leola Boatman Simons; his brother and sister -in-law, Vernon and Evelyn Simons; and by in-laws with whom he had a special mutually fond relationship, mother-in-law, Betty Forde; sister-in-law, Molly Schwartz and her husband, Ray. Hank is survived by his wife, Eileen Forde Simons; son, Sherman; daughter-in-law, Susan; and granddaughter, Sierra. Our thanks to the staff and caregivers of Clarewood House Extended Care Center who gave Hank such kind and considerate care.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, where Hank and Eileen were married 49 years ago. Dr. Bill Heston will be officiating.
