Ewards died Thursday October 17, 2013 at Methodist Hospital after a long illness with COPD. Clay was born April 6, 1922 in West, Texas to Howard Clayton Edwards, Sr. and Lillie Clampitt Edwards. Clay graduated from Baylor University in 1943. He enlisted in the in the navy to fight in World War II, and was trained in supply and disbursement at Harvard Business School. During the war he did convoy duty on the North Atlantic sailing from Norfolk to Tunis in the Mediterranean. After the war Clay lived in Boston for nine years where he was Treasurer of Craftsman Insurance Company. In 1956 he moved back to Texas and lived in Houston where he worked for Transco Gas Pipeline Company until his retirement in 1980.
Clay was a member of Christ Church Cathedral Houston, Texas.
Clay is survived by his life companion and caregiver, John Holsomback of Houston, his sister and brother-in-law Betty and Arthur Flynn of Houston, his niece and husband Carol and Hank Cornelius of Katy, his cousin Dorothy Stallings King of Waco, his great niece and husband Erin and Clayton Harrison of San Antonio, and his great nephew Reid Cornelius, and several cousins.

A visitation and service will be held on Monday October 21, 2013 at 5:00 pm at Bradshaw Carter Funeral Home, 1734 West Alabama Houston, Texas. Interment and graveside service will be at White Rock Cemetery, Elm Mott, Texas at 2:00 pm on Tuesday October 22, 2013. Donations may be made to White Rock Cemetery Association, P.O.
