Ima Dorrell Burg, age 104, left this world for a better one on January 22, 2014. Ima Adele was born in Deepwater, Texas to Joanna and Robert Miller on July 10, 1909. After her birth they moved to La Porte, Texas. Ima graduated from high school and they moved to Houston area where she lived for 86 years. Ima attended the University of Texas, and transferred to SMU to study music. She left SMU to help care for her little sister, Mozelle. Music was the love and highlight of her life. After she moved to Houston she taught music and had a Sunday radio show. She played piano since a little girl until about 2 months ago. She played for school, clubs, retirement homes and her family events. Then she met a young Coach from Milby High School in Houston, Texas named Bethel (Buster) Dorrell. They married on August 13, 1933. Buster took a job with Shell Oil Co. and they moved to a staff row home inside the refinery near Deer Park, Texas. There they raised their children, made many close friends, and were near her family. They were married for 39 years before his death in 1973. Ima's parents and siblings meant the world to her. After church each Sunday they had lunches together and holidays were spent with them. Ima was the oldest continuous member of the First United Methodist Church of Houston. Ima was a fantastic Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was an outstanding cook, renowned for her rolls and Devil's Food Cake. She was a great hostess and a tremendous people person. She had almost 15 years with Orville before he died. She was a fortunate lady to have had two outstanding men in her life.
