Irene Carter Obituary
Irene Brosius Carter passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in Houston. A native of Middletown, Ohio, she was born on October 30, 1923 to Irene Elizabeth Sebald Brosius and Robert Orion Brosius. Irene spent her early life in Middletown, graduated high school from Stephens College in Missouri, and graduated from the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She married her beloved husband Marty in 1949 and together they raised their three children, Cookie, Martin, and Bobby. Irene and Marty were active members of the Wedding Band Sunday School class at Chapelwood beginning in 1968, and for nine years before Marty's death, they visited hospitals on behalf of Chapelwood. Irene enjoyed travel, Mexican food, Chapelwood, family gatherings, and time spent in the company of good friends.
Irene was preceded in death by Oliver Martin Carter Jr., her husband of 48 years; and Oliver Martin Carter III, her oldest son. She is survived by daughter Irene (Cookie) Carlson and her husband Dale C. Carlson, of Centennial, Colorado; son Robert (Bobby) Carter and his wife Allison Carter, of Houston; daughter-in-law Rebecca Carter of Houston; five grandchildren: Irene (Beth) White, Lisa Patton and husband Bart Patton, Dale C. Carlson III, Oliver Martin Carter IV, and Emily C. Carter; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Chapelwood United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 24 at 1:00 p.m., 11140 Greenbay, Houston, TX 77024.
