Jack Rebman, 88, of Houston, Texas, died of natural causes June 13, 2013 at his residence in The Terrace, located in Houston's Memorial City.
Mr. Rebman, born in Cleveland, Ohio, was the son of Harry Rebman and Lenora Sarah Cohen. They also had a daughter, Shirley, who is deceased. In 1946, Mr. Rebman married Ruth Agnes Houck. They had three sons, Stephen, David, and Daniel. Mrs. Rebman and David are deceased while the other two sons survive.
The Rebman's only grandchild, Nicholas, is the son of Daniel. They reside in Houston, Texas. Stephen lives in Raleigh, N.C. During their 63 years of marriage, Ruth and Jack made home in several cities: Erie, Pa., Los Angeles, Ca., Columbus, Ohio, Cary, N.C., and Sapphire, N.C. Jack moved to Houston two years after Ruth passed.
Mr. Rebman earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology in 1946 and then, in 1965, attained a master's degree from UCLA. For most of his working career, Mr. Rebman was employed by Lord Corporation (Erie, Pa. and Cary, N.C.) and by Lockheed (Burbank, Ca.). In 1990, he retired from his position as a senior research fellow with Lord. During the 1980s and early 1990s, he also taught courses in robotics at Duke University. Mr. Rebman earned eight patents over his lifetime.
Jack was expert at do-it-yourself home improvement projects, many of large scale. He was an accomplished computer programmer and enjoyed the craft of woodcarving, for which he won several awards from the North Carolina State Fair. Over many decades, Mr. Rebman has been a loving husband and father, an unfaltering provider, and has conducted his affairs with integrity.
