James "Skipper" Leroy Dwigans, age 73, of Hempstead, Texas passed away on January 15, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born August 2, 1940 to James Walter Dwigans, Sr. and Velma Lucille McCormick Dwigans in Houston, Texas. As a young man, Jim served in the Air Force and later became a pilot. He began his own business, Texas QMS, providing Quality Management Services to a variety of small businesses in the Oil and Gas Industry. In recent years, his daughter Nikki has worked by his side, allowing him more time to spend volunteering with Meals on Wheels and the House of Help food pantry. He also enjoyed spending time with his horses and dogs. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his stepson Capt. Nathan Jay Nylander.

He is survived by his sons James "Jimmy" Leroy Dwigans, Jr., and wife Sandy, James Lee Dwigans, daughters Elizabeth "Liz" Dwigans Mielke and husband Greg and Nikki Jo Dwigans-Kelly, brother Theodore "Teddy" Dwigans, grandchildren: Brooke, Brandon, and Collin Dwigans; Tori, Ali, and Skyler Shimek; and Tyler, Elisabeth, and Andru Nylander, and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation and family gathering: 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Hempstead. Burial services will follow later in the week at Houston National Cemetery.
