James Walter Parish passed away Friday, July 26, 2013. Born in Huntington, Texas, on August 15, 1923 to Joel Columbus Parish and Clara Clayton Parish, Jim was the oldest of five children. He is survived by two sisters, Leona Buvinghausen and Betty Ann Scroggins. He also leaves behind his son Dirk and granddaughter Audrey, as well has his son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Mona, grandson Justin, granddaughter Layne Craig and her husband Matt, and great-granddaughter Allis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Justine Holmes Parish, in 2009.

Jim flew 67 missions as a navigator and bombardier in the 394th Bomb Group, 586th Squadron based in Europe during WWII. He and Justine enjoyed traveling to reunions of his group all over the U.S. After the war, Jim received a degree in chemical engineering from Louisiana State University. LSU sports, especially football, remained a lifelong passion. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Jim and Justine married in 1948, and spent their early years in small towns in Oklahoma and Texas as he worked for Mobil Oil. After spending 16 years in Corpus Christi, they moved to Houston in 1976, where Jim retired from Mobil in 1983.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home on Champion Forest Drive. Funeral services will be at Champion Forest Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning. A graveside service will be held in Shreveport on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
