Joe Abbate, 96 passed away peacefully April 3rd 2012 with his wife, Rosemary, of 69 years by his side. He was born December 26, 1915 in Houston to Joe and Louise Abbate. Joe is survived by his wife, Rosemary, 2 sons Joe and Tom, 2 daughters Louise and Mary, along with 12 grandchildren, 5 great grand children and 3 great, great grandchildren.
Joe was born in Houston and remained here all his life. He graduated from RICE University and received a Juris Doctorate from University of Texas. During WWII he proudly served his country as Army Artillery Captain.
Joe dedicated his life to helping youth in sports. He helped start Spring Branch Memorial Sports Association and even built 3 baseball fields. Throughout his life he taught untold numbers of boys and girls how to play America's games of football, baseball, & softball. He coached Spring Branch girl's All Stars softball team to Texas State championship in 1974.
Joe used his law degree well. He worked 45 years and became a noted expert in Real Estate specializing in commercial transactions. Title to many of Houston downtown skyscrapers were researched and confirmed by Joe. Visitation will be Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Woodlawn Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, April 6, 2012 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
