Dr. John E. Bishop Long time Houston resident, loving husband of Betty, passed away on August 17, 2013 after an extended illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, two sons, Michael (Donnis) of Houston, and David (Diane) and grandson James of Seattle, WA.

Dr. Bishop, a native of Missouri, was educated at Central Missouri State College and received his doctorate from the University of Missouri. He taught in the public schools of Kansas City and Cincinnati. John assumed a faculty position at the University of Houston in 1959, and after a tenure that lasted over three decades, he retired in 1991 with the rank of Professor Emeritus.
His career and interests were varied. John was proud to have been an Eagle Scout. He was also President of the Houston-area Sports Car Club of America, and loved jazz. During his tenure at the University of Houston he completed a year-long post-doctoral program at the University of Washington. He also taught UH graduate classes in New Delhi, India, Islamabad, Pakistan, Taipei, Taiwan, and Jakarta, Indonesia and was considered by his on-campus teacher preparation students to be a knowledgeable, effective and very popular teacher. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:00 am at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris Street, Bellaire, Texas 77401.
