John Carl Everly, 75, went to heaven on November 12, 2013 with his family by his side. He had been battling Pulmonary Fibrosis for many years. He grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He was a proud lifelong 32 degree Mason and Shriner. John also proudly served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, including many years in OSI. During his service he earned numerous awards and ribbons including the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. After his military career he worked as a Private Investigator and also 7 ½ years at the Harris County Attorney's Office. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert William (Bill) Everly. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gertrud Everly (who will miss him very, very much); daughter, Pollye Hofstedt and husband John; son, Ken Everly and wife Linda; grandsons, John David Hofstedt (currently serving in the U.S. Navy) and Austin Everly; sister, Caryl Jean Nixon and husband David. He leaves behind numerous relatives and many good friends who will miss him and the great stories he told. The family would like to thank all of his doctors, nurses and caretakers along with Chaplain Doug for their support. A memorial service will be held at 9:30AM on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Brookside Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery. To honor his memory, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your favorite local animal charity or Shriners Hospitals for Children in his name.
