Dr. John Harold Perel was born on Dec.11, 1945, in Houston, Tx to Frances and Eddie Perel.
The family moved to Victoria, Tx in 1956, where he spent his formative years.
He is survived by Janice Crane and her two sons Eli and Will Crane of Lexington, Ky, two brothers Stephen Perel (Frances) of Houston, Tx and Bobby Perel (Linda Chew) of El Paso, Tx; Also cherishing his memory are his niece Nancy Siegal (George) of San Antonio, Tx and nephew Richard Perel ( Ximena) of Jacksonville, Fl, aunt Bessie Kuper of Austin, Tx, cousins Charlotte Robinson (Sherman) and Charlotte Motley of Houston, Tx , Mickey Kuper (Ingrid) of Austin, Tx, Sherry Fox (Eddie) of Chicago, Il, and lifelong friends Buddy Pollon of Houston, Tx and Ron Stark of Austin, Tx. Johnny graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and the University of Kentucky Dental School. After dental school he served with the U.S Navy. After serving in the military he practiced dentistry in Houston for thirty years. He was a member of Congregation Beth Yeshurun Synagogue.
After moving to Lexington, Ky, Johnny was active in Ohavay Zion Synagogue where he served as treasurer. Johnny also became involved in community activities. He learned to speak fluent Spanish and was a volunteer ESL teacher. He was an active student of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
Johnny was a devoted Texas Longhorn fan. While attending the University of Texas he was selected to be a member of the Texas Cowboys, and he also served as president of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.
Johnny was a kind and gentle person. He will be missed by his family, friends, and associates.
