JOHN CURRY SORENSON, 82, of Spring, TX, passed away on February 14, 2014. John was a native Houstonian born on January 21, 1932 to Betty and John Laurits Sorenson.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Peggy Ellington Sorenson; daughters Kirsten Hawkes and her husband Dudley; Karis Lynn Perry and her husband Pat; and Kala Ann Sorenson. John was blessed with grandchildren Allyson Sherwood and her husband Captain Christopher Sherwood, United States Army, Sean Perry, Iain Perry, Grace Ann Perry and Joshua Perry; great grandson C.J. Sherwood; sister Sue Sorenson Maxwell and her husband Phil Maxwell; and many cousins.
He attended San Jacinto High School and the University of Houston.
One of the most important parts of his life was serving his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War, and he did so with great pride.
He spent his career in the automobile industry and retired from General Motors, Chevrolet Division.
John had a lifelong attachment to Rockport, TX. He loved gardening, basketball and baseball games, reading great books and his friends. He loved his country and his church, but most of all, he loved his wife Peggy and their family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, at John Wesley United Methodist Church where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Fisher House (www.fisherhouse.org) or the Neuroscience or Cardiovascular departments at St. Luke's Hospital Foundation in Houston, TX (www.stlukeshouston.com). The Fisher House provides a "home away from home" for family members of hospitalized Veterans and military members during treatment and recovery. St. Luke's Hospital provided John with exceptional comfort and care throughout his lifetime.
