John Vacek Obituary
John R. Vacek, 94, resident of Dickinson, Texas, passed away March 30, 2013 in Webster, Texas. He was born August 27, 1918 in East Bernard, Texas to parents, John J. Vacek and Mary Vacek. He graduated from University of Texas with a Pharmaceutical Degree, and served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a Silver Star recipient. He was a member of Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church. John was also an Honorary Member and Benefactor of the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and worked as pharmaceutical salesman for Abbott Laboratories of Southeast Texas, and a Charter Member of the La Marque Elks Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Vacek; and survived by his brother Al Vacek and wife Marie; and numerous nieces and nephews.; and longtime friend and caregiver, Juanita Quezada.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church in Dickinson. The Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department will serve as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers, Joyce and Fred Stebbins, Juanita Quezada, Noel Quezada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department or to Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church Building Fund.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard, Texas.
