Dr.  Joyce Supina Obituary
Joyce Lynne Supina Dr. Joyce Lynne Supina, 70, died April 22, 2014 at Houston Hospice. Joyce was born in Jersey City, New Jersey to John and Anne Michaliga of Fredericksburg, Virginia. She grew up a Virginia farm girl, attending Spottsylvania High School before advancing to study at Mary Washington College at age 16. Joyce continued her academic career over the next several decades, receiving her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, M.A. in Human Development from Fairleigh Dickinson University, M.A. in Behavioral Science from the University of Houston, and Ph.D. in Human Resource Development Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin. Joyce was a philosopher and a poet with an adventurous and lively spirit. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Central and South America and enjoyed talking with everyone. She was at home with academics, artists, farmers and entrepreneurs alike.
Joyce's long and diverse career included working as a journalist in New Jersey, marketing at IBM and Pitney Bowes, and starting her own real estate investment firm. She taught management at the University of Houston as well as at Lamar University. Joyce is best known as a tenacious, hard working intellectual with an infectious laugh, a zest for life and a deep understanding of people and how they live, think, and work within larger systems.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Lauren Supina (Mike Farber) and children Matthew and Aidan of Washington, D.C.; her daughter Andrea Basinski (Patrick) and children William, John and Vivian Basinski of Seattle, Washington; her sister Patricia McCary of Fredericksburg, VA. Joyce was preceded in death by her son Robert J. Supina.
A memorial will be held in Clear Lake, Texas on Friday, May 9th at 10:00 A.M and in Virginia at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at legacy.com
