Kathleen Ruth "Kathy" Hemphill, age 60, of Galveston passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at her second residence in Houston. Funeral Mass is 10:00 am Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will follow 11:30 am Tuesday at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm.

Kathy was born March 26, 1952 in Houston, Texas to Aloysius Leroy Hemphill, Jr. a fourth generation Houstonian and Elizabeth Marie Browne Hemphill of St. Louis. Missouri. She was a partner at The Spencer Company and the President of Spencer Management where she worked for 20 years. She enjoyed her work and many friendships of family and friends in Houston and Galveston. She went to Holy Ghost Catholic School and Marian High School in Bellaire and then studied Communications and Business at the University of Houston. She was a member of the Houston Bay Area Emmaus Community, was an active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church where she served as Wedding Coordinator, with the St. Anne's Guild and as a Eucharistic Minister. She loved art, it was her passion. Kathy was also known for her practice of Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Since she had no children of her own she became the most dedicated and fantastic aunt to her sister's children.
Preceded in death by her parents, survivors include, sisters, Mary Jo Pearcy and husband Marc of Arvada, CO, Patricia Pomaro and husband Louis of Grapevine, Texas, Anne Higgins of Missouri City and best friend who was like a sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" Marchi and husband Gino of Galveston; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are Martin Maxwell, Sr., Brad Wander, William Holland, Levi Maxwell, Martin Maxwell, Jr., Marc Carter and David Svoboda.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to a scholarship being set up at Texas A & M University at The Spencer Company P.O. Box 88207 Houston, Texas 77288-0207. Attn. Scholarship Fund.
