Kristen Elise
Fowler
Kristen departed this earth to be with her heavenly and earthly fathers on June 6, 2012. She was born at Hermann Hospital, Houston, Tx, 47 years ago at a time when children with Down's syndrome were universally institutionalized. Her parents, however, chose to bring her home and with much loving and persistence, she learned to read, write, count change, draw, sing in a choir, sew and cook. Kristen graduated from Brenham High School in 1987 and was able to hold a job. She had a very competitive spirit and competed in Special Olympics from the ages of 8 to 40. She competed in track and field, basketball, swimming, volleyball, skating, softball, bowling and equestrian events, riding both English and Western style. One year she won all six gold medals in English riding at the statewide Special Olympics which earned her the title Texas State Champion. Kristen usually beamed her beautiful, contagious smile and was nicknamed "Sunshine" by one Special Friend's father. She had 2 big brothers, Matt and Grant, whom she loved dearly; Kristen always told everyone about them, even in her waning years of Alzheimer's.
She is survived by her mother Frances, brother Matt, sister-in-law Cheryl, nephew Cody, and brother Grant.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at The Carriage House at Country Place Retirement Community in Pearland, Tx on July 7, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Special Friends, P.O. Box 1382, Friendswood,
