Leland Hobbs Pratt|
76, of Austin, Texas, passed away on May 26th surrounded by his family. He was born January 4, 1937 in Dallas, Texas to Leland Edwin Pratt and Violet Hobbs.
Raised in Dallas, Leland graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1953. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies. He continued his education at Southern Methodist University where he earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1961. He continued to be a supporter of Texas A&M as a Century Club Member.
Leland married the love of his life, Mary Frances Cunningham, on June 14, 1958 in Dallas, Texas. Together they have three children, Dawn, Johnathan, and Richard.
He began his professional career at General Dynamics Corp. as an engineer. He continued his career with International Business Machines where he spent the next 30 years in a number of technical and managerial positions. After retiring in 1991, Leland was offered an opportunity to continue working at IBM in a contract position, which he did for the next 19 years. Full-time retirement came in 2008.
Leland enjoyed traveling and keeping up with the latest developments in technology. He was a long-time private pilot and spent many hours flying his own plane. He was a fishing enthusiast and member of the Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited organization.
Leland is survived by his wife, Mary Frances, children Dawn Derr (husband Douglas) of The Woodlands, Texas, Johnathan Pratt (wife Jennifer) of East Chatham, New York, and J. Richard Pratt (wife Carolyn) and their children Paul, Ruth, John and Yulia Pratt of Dickenson, Texas.
The memorial service will be held in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas on June 6 at 12:30 P.M.
