Mary N. Ruisard
died January 4, 2013 after a lengthy illness of breast cancer. She was the only child of Elizabeth and Henry H. Nowicki, born 2/2/45 in Evanston, Illinois. She grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she attended the Laboratory Schools for the University of Minnesota from nursery school through high school. She earned a B.A. from Northwestern University and B.S. from the University of Minnesota. While at Northwestern she met her future husband, Bruce Eliot Ruisard who survives her. They celebrated 44 years of marriage. She is survived by their two children and four grandchildren: daughter, Elizabeth Ruisard Weaver, children Megan Elizabeth and Matthew Jason Weaver and son, David Henry Ruisard, wife Heather and their children, Katherine Nicole and Jack Eliot Ruisard.
Mary was a lifelong educator and active volunteer. She loved teaching. Her teaching career spanned 28 years in a variety of locations including the Avery Coonley School in Downers Grove, IL. In Houston she taught at The Village School and later retired from Spring ISD after teaching elementary art at Salyers Elementary for eight years.
She was a dedicated volunteer in the schools and community. A 41 year member of The American Association of University Women, she served in a leadership position at the local, state and national levels. In her retirement, Mary was a volunteer at Memorial Hermann Hospital the Woodlands. She especially enjoyed her work with the Scholarship Committee and Junior Volunteers. Mary was also a dedicated docent at Rienzi, the house museum of European Decorative Arts for the MFAH.
Mary was an enthusiastic member of the MFAH and Houston Symphony. Most of all, she loved her friends and family.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 18 at 2:30 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3901 S. Panther Creek Dr., The Woodlands, 77381.
