In a world where 'time' seems to 'fly' by quickly - Milt had a way of 'stopping time'.
Moments spent with him became lasting memories.
Thoughtful, kind, and genuinely interested in sharing his passions for life -- he is missed!

Milt had a unique ability to be present in the moment. He contributed and shared his knowledge with those of us who were present for the UVM Board of Advisors meetings for the UVM College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. I was there to record the 'minutes' from those meetings and looked forward to having conversations with him. T truly look forward to meeting him again in heaven, our eternal celestial home!

Time passes, however my memories of Milt are 'timeless'. The new UVM CEMS Discovery Buildings would have brought on his amazing 'smile'!

Milt and I were very close friends and SAE fraternity brothers at UVM. We both graduated in 1951. I believe we last met at our 60th class reunion in 2011 and kept up email contact.
He had an outstanding career. My condolences go to all his Family.

I met Milt in 1979 as a flight crewmember on, "NASA 2" at Ellington Field, TX. Our job was to fly Milt and Chris Kraft among other NASA leaders to Washington DC. Milt was totally personable and I was proud he was NASA's Chief Engineer. May God Bless the entire Silveira Family. I am honored to have serve NASA along with Milt!

When I arrived as Dean of Engineering at UVM and first met Milt, I was in awe of his accomplishments. But he soon put me at ease with his warm and welcoming demeanor. His soft-spoken, yet insightful comments were always welcome at our College of Engineering Advisory Board meetings. His career was so inspirational that the College named an award for rising superstar faculty members in his honor. The Milt Silveira award is given to a junior faculty member who "best embodies a 'pioneering spirit,' drive and potential to succeed at the highest levels of his or her profession." Over the years, we became good friends. I display proudly a model space shuttle that he gave me in my office. I will miss our periodic informal meetings and lunches. His passing is a loss for me personally, the university and the nation.

My deepest condolences to Milt's family --he will be missed greatly!
He was incredible in every way! He was able to make complex topics easy to understand and he had a unique ability to make whoever he was talking with feel as though they were the only person in the room.

I was so saddened to hear of Milt's passing. I had the privilege of meeting Milt as he was on our College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences' Board of Advisors at the University of Vermont. He was a delight to interact with and I usually saw him at least twice a year. He was certainly a very kind man and I will truly miss him.

My condolences to Milt's family. Milt was an amazing guy and a gentleman. He constantly surprised me and the team with his thoughtful comments and wisdom from his broad experience at NASA. We worked to improve astronaut safety during re-entry back to Earth for the Orion (MPCV) Program. He will be missed. God speed Milt.

I had the privilege of meeting and being “mentored” by Milt a few years ago when he participated on one of our space flight study teams. Milt was a walking encyclopedia of human spaceflight knowledge that was very valuable to our study. Later, I again had the privilege of working with Milt on a flight test project. Milt was a great resource and provided us (those with both mature and new careers) with a great deal of insight and lessons learned from prior projects, especially Apollo. I will miss him as a friend and colleague.

Barbara and I were sorry to hear about Milt's passing. Although we haven't been in contact for years, he was a pivotal factor in my life. Milt recruited me in 1962 from Langley to work for him in Houston. Shortly after arriving there I met my my future wife. We have been happily married for over 50 years. Also I enjoyed working for NASA for my whole career. Milt was not only a professional colleague but a good friend too. He literally changed my life.

I remember Milt well. He was a great NASA employee. He was friends with the Mirrasou Brothers in California and they did many good things for those of us who traveled to Ames Research Center. Their Wine testing facility was on Albon Rd South of San Francisco

Lee, Doug, Carolyn, and Scott,
My heart aches for you all - I know what you are going through. We have lost another great "dinosaur" from NACA/NASA's greatest time in history. We are so lucky to be children and witnesses of The Greatest Generation. We will never see the likes of their kind again.
God be with you and your families at this difficult time.
Hugs to all of you,
Tom Perry

I am so sorry to read about Milt's passing and my heart goes out to his family. I remember him well as he was my mentor when I started work with NACA in 1956 as a young engineer at the Langley Research Center. He took me under his wing and helped me along and for that I am eternal grateful. May the Lord be with his family.
