Ray Smith Obituary
Ray Smith, 63, loving son, husband, father and grandfather passed over on December 1, 2013 at his home in Montgomery, Texas with his family by his side. He fought a long and courageous battle with Stage IV Lung Cancer for which at this time there is no cure.
Ray was born in The United Kingdom on March 7, 1950 and started his CPA career with Arthur Andersen in the late 1970's. After which he went to work for Tom Hetherington as CFO of Power Pak and numerous associated companies. Ray started his CPA firm Ray Smith CPA & Associates in 1986. All of his clients were considered friends. The family wishes to thank all those "friends and family" who came into their lives through his practice.
The family prays for all those who know the devastation of Lung Cancer. It is commonly said at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center that if pink is the color of Breast Cancer, gray is the color of Lung Cancer. New Immunology Research plus Targeted Therapy are showing promising results. It was unfortunate for Ray that these new therapies were just years, maybe just months away. These new technologies will save many lives in the future. His family will be forever thankful to Don Lynn Gibbons, M.D. who gave us almost three additional years with our beloved.
In addition the family wishes to especially thank Dick and Karen Moore, Robert and Judy Parks, Stanley Hoffman, and Arthur and Lisseth Henderson. The family wishes to acknowledge our extended family Thomas F. A. Hetherington, Ellen Hetherington Jester and Harry Hy Hetherington. Their father, Thomas F. Hetherington was a very special person in Ray's life.
Preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Ellen Smith, father-in-law Robert J. Harris, niece Sarah and pup, Simba, Ray is survived by his wife, Jeanette, father, Bryan G. Smith, mother-in-law, Thelma J. Harris, brother Michael B. Smith and wife Lauri; sisters-in-law Leisa Harris, Linda Duggan and husband Mike, Lori Harris; daughter Terri C. Arora and husband Michael, son, Alexander N. Smith and wife Rachel, son Richard E. Smith; grandchildren, Trevor, Riley, Mason, London, and Braedon; nieces Leslie, Loni, Jaclyn, Kelly, Elizabeth, Ruth and Chantel and nephew Matthew along with pups Simon, Emily and Rebel.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:15 p.m. in the Chapel of Forest Park The Woodlands, 18000 1-45 South, The Woodlands, Texas 77384 with Celebration of Life starting at 2:00 p.m. Reception will immediately following celebration.
