(Don) Holstead, a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on February 16, 2014. Don was born November 12, 1928 in Port Arthur, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jonell Hatley Holstead, his parents, Dayton Raymond Holstead and Mary Commeler Chandler Holstead, and his brothers Paul Wesley Holstead and Dayton Earl Holstead. He is survived by his sister, Betty Joyce Whaley, sister-in-law Sharon Fletcher Holstead, son Stephen Donald Holstead and wife Valerie Zabka Holstead, daughter Ruth Holstead Boren and partner Christopher Weaver, grand-daughter Jennifer Holstead Brown and husband Joshua Brown, grandson John Patrick Boren, Jr., grand-daughter Stephanie Diane Holstead and great grandchildren Caleb, Grace and Hope Brown. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children. Donald graduated from the University of Texas, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He married his wife Jonell, whom he had known since the 7th grade, in 1951. After serving four years in the Air Force in Amarillo, Texas he and his wife settled in Houston where he began and ended his career at Quintana Petroleum Corp. He was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed painting and traveling. He will be truly missed by his family and friends, including friends from Providence Place and the "Petch Pack." A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of Houston's First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas, on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The Shepherd Society, Rice University, The Shepherd School of Music, MS 532, P.O. Box 1892, Houston, Texas 77251-1892.
