Raymond Ver Hoeve Obituary
Raymond W. Ver Hoeve passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the age of 89.
Ray graduated from Syracuse University with a Masters in Chemical Engineering and served in the US Navy during WW II. In 1979 he relocated from Chicago to Houston to serve as executive vice-president for Texas United Corporation. He then became its president in 1984. Though he retired in 1993, he continued as a consultant with this company for many more years. He had a passion for work, loved being productive, was highly respected in his field of business and enjoyed being a mentor to others.
Ray was an avid golfer and loved playing tennis. He enjoyed stamp collecting, fishing, his tropical fish and playing cards. Ray's favorite thing was a good backyard bar-b-que and any other family gatherings. He loved his family and visiting or even looking at photos of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren never failed to bring a big smile to his face.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Joane, daughter Linda Safranek (Richard); son Dan Ver Hoeve; grandchildren: David Safranek (Darci) and Nicholas Ver Hoeve; great-grandchildren: Evan and Elise Safranek; sister-in-law Ruth Van Pelt and his beloved cat Inkadeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Houston SPCA, 900 Portway Drive, Houston, Texas 77024 or www.houstonspca.org.
The family will gather for a private Memorial Service.
