Jackson, M.D. passed away on March 6, 2014 in Austin Texas where he lived his retirement years.
He was born in Meridian Mississippi where he graduated from Meridian High School. He went on to receive his B.S. degree from University of Alabama. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Epsilon Delta, Alabama Quadrangle, President Phi Eta Sigma and Sigma Phi Epsilon. While at Alabama he also received the Alpha Epsilon Cup, awarded for "outstanding premed student for 1950; received the ROTC medal for 2 years for the "outstanding ROTC Student".
He later graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Dr. Jackson was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha at Tulane and was Vice President of Phi Chi Medical Social Fraternity. He was chosen by the School of Medicine on basis of scholastic record at Esso Standard Oil Company in the summer of 1955.
Dr. Jackson served in the Air Force as a flight surgeon, and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Baylor of Houston. He was a member of Orthopedic Associates in Houston Texas. He served as a chairman of orthopedic surgery at St. Joseph Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children in Houston.
Roland was preceded in death by his Father and Mother and is survived by his sister, Gift Johnson of Meridian.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Suzanne Jackson; son, Michael Jackson and wife Diane; grandsons Brady and Bryce; son David Jackson; daughter Julie Turrentine and husband Rick; granddaughter Kathryn; grandsons James and John; daughter Catherine Jackson and grandsons Tor and Anton.
He also leaves behind three special four legged friends, Smokey, Bandit, and Leo.

Celebration of life will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Sunday, the 16th of March 2014, at the Hills Country Club, 26 Club Estates Parkway, The Hills, Texas.
