Shelton "Shel" Mitelman, 78, of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully Jan. 24 at his home in Houston, surrounded by his four beloved children.|
Born May 21, 1935, Shel was well-known throughout Houston and beyond for his work as an artist and graphic designer, through Shel Mitelman Advertising & Design. Self-employed for more than 50 years, his client list included household names like Neiman-Marcus, Abercrombie & Fitch, Eddie Bauer and Sakowitz.
Away from the "drawing board," Shel's biggest passions were his family and friends, playing and watching golf, tennis and football and always with a pen in hand.
After graduating from San Jacinto High School, Shel went on to his beloved University of Texas where, he loved to jokingly say, he "drew his way through school." Shel finished college at the University of Houston, where he graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree.
Shel is survived by his children, Risa Mitelman Morrison, Cami and Robert Mitelman, Kasey and Todd Asarch and Josh Mitelman; siblings Bonnie and Alan Mitelman and Michael Mitelman; and grandchildren Jason, Kevin Morrison, Laurel, Lainey and Allie Mitelman, and Connor, Paige and Charlie Asarch.
To his hundreds of family and friends, Shel will be remembered with great fondness as a warm, caring, sweet and loving man.
The funeral will take place Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at Beth Yeshurun cemetery on Allen Parkway in Houston.
Shel's brother, Rabbi Michael Mitelman and Rabbi Steve Gross, of the Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism, will be officiating Sunday's service.
