Obituary Condolences

Walter William Scarborough
April 21st, 1936 -
June 30th, 2013
Walter William Scarborough Always larger than life and always a lover of all things Houston, Walter William Scarborough died surrounded by family on June 30th, 2013, staying true to himself through to the very end. Born in Houston on April 21st, 1936, Walter studied architecture at Rice University and the University of Texas before an apprenticeship under Frank Lloyd Wright.
Always the "Quintessential Houstonian," many of the buildings Walter designed still grace the ever-changing Houston skyline. An early proponent of desegregation in Houston's neighborhoods and schools, Walter never met a stranger, and shared his spirit of generosity with people from any and all walks of life.
Walter is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Diana Marshall Scarborough; his children, Julee Scarborough Clear, Walter Welborn Scarborough, Jack Huffman Scarborough, Harry Lloyd Scarborough, Tracy Scarborough, Christina Scarborough, and David Joor, and daughters-in-law Christina and Jamie; his brother Thomas Lloyd Scarborough and sister-in-law Joetta; nieces and nephews Susannah, Tommy, Marc and Joey and their spouses and children; and granddaughters Sarah, Alexandra, and Adelaide.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at 7939 2nd Street, Hitchcock, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Clarity Center for A New Way at 1132 Herkimer, Houston, Texas 77008.
