Weldon Walker passed away early on Friday morning, the 26th of April 2013, in Houston, Texas. He was 99.|
Weldon was born on the 27th of June 1913 in Fannin County, in northeast Texas, to parents Newton Thomas and Millie Sierra Durham Walker.
He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 62 ½ years, Lelda Cargile Walker; and by his daughter, Patricia Boswell Smith. He is survived by his son, Thomas L. "Tom" Walker and his wife Janet; granddaughters, Rachael Maly and her husband Dan, Jenny Walker Chavez and her husband Damon, Lesley Walker, Kelly Walker, Lynn Boswell Baldridge and her husband Burton; grandson, David Boswell and his wife Kim; and nine great-grandchildren.
Weldon lead by example - faith and family defined who he was. His quiet generosity and kindness was inspiring to his family and to all who knew him.
As owner of Walker-Kurth Lumber Company, which he founded in 1951, he served as President until retiring in 1980. He was a loyal member of many wonderful organizations including the Downtown Rotary Club, Executives Association of Houston, long-time member of the Lumberman's Association of Texas and he served as President in 1961, and was honored as the Houston Lumberman of the Year in the early sixties.
Weldon was an active member of West University Baptist Church since 1950 and was Deacon Emeritus.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from seven until nine o'clock in the evening on Monday, the 29th of April, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 30th of April at West University Baptist Church, 6218 Auden Street in Houston, where Dr. Roger D. Patterson, Senior Pastor, Dr. Ronny W. Barner, Senior Adult Minister, and Dr. Leray Fowler, are to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Welcome Center.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private entombment in the Chapel of the Oaks Mausoleum at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mr. Walker's name be directed to the West University Baptist Church, 6218 Auden Street, Houston, TX, 77005.
