Wilford Eugene "Gene" Wyatt, 82, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin, TX. He was born on January 27, 1931 in Sapulpa, OK to Loren and Bessie (Stone) Wyatt and was raised in Aldine, TX, just north of Houston. The friendships he developed there in Aldine and at Aldine High remained strong through all the years of his life.|
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Louise (Walston) Wyatt of Houston, TX, his three sons and their wives; Loren and Cass Wyatt, Dennis and Perrie Wyatt, Lynn and Terry Wyatt, and his daughters and their husbands; Monique and Clay Johnson, and Lorraine Thompson and husband. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.
He will be best remembered for the constant twinkle in his eye, the ever present dance in his step and the beautiful songs of yesteryear always spilling from his lips. A born entertainer and ceaseless teaser his greatest joy in life was to be surrounded by his family and friends.
At the age of 17, Gene and two of his dearest childhood friends enlisted in the Navy, starting a proud tradition followed by all three sons. After the Navy, Gene was ready to try new and varied experiences, just a few of which included rough-necking, corporate sales, auctioneering, square dance calling, and many entrepreneurial endeavors such as gift and antique shops, and newspaper branch ownership.
At the age of 42 he decided to continue his education, earning his BA in Science Education from the University of Texas in 1976, leading to his true calling as a beloved teacher at Austin's Burnet Junior High until his retirement.
A funeral service to celebrate his life and legacy will be held Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, TX.
