William Allen |
Elston 87, of Houston, Texas, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from unexpected heart failure.
Allen was born on May 9, 1927, to Robert Lee and Mary Ellen Shepherd Elston in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Byrd High School in 1944, and served in the Navy. Upon discharge, he returned to Shreveport to marry his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou Williams. They were married August 12, 1949, and moved to College Station where Allen was accepted at Texas A&M, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1953.
His first employment was with General Motors Research in Detroit, but they missed their home and family, and in less than two years returned to Shreveport, accepting a position at United Gas Research where he remained for 13 years. Desiring to start his own company not long after moving to Houston in 1969, he formed Elston & Company Consultants as a broker for mergers, acquisitions, and sales.
Allen's greatest joy was working with Betty in the woods on family property near Shreveport. They had been longtime members of the Texas Forestry Association and the Harris County Forest Landowners Association.
Allen was devoted to his church, family, and friends. His highly regarded character and integrity exemplified Christian values he held close to his heart. These attributes were lovingly instilled in his children and grandchildren, and respected by his many friends, who will miss him dearly.
Allen is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty of Houston; brother Raymond Lee Elston and wife Jeannine Newton Elston of Shreveport, Louisiana; sons John Stephen Elston and wife Sandra Hall Elston, and Robin Allen Elston and wife Christine Brain Elston, all of Houston; grandchildren Lori Beth Elston of Houston, Todd Allen Elston and wife Bethany Wyers Elston of Katy, Texas, and Kirk William Elston of Houston; and great-grandsons Gavin Allen Elston and Wesley Paul Elston of Katy.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Westbury Baptist Church, 10425 Hillcroft Street, Houston, TX, 77096.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Westbury Baptist Church.
