William Alexander Lamont, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014, at the age of 86 in Houston, Tx. Bill was born August 25, 1927 in Swampscott, Massachusetts to William S. Lamont and Rebecca McAllester.|
Bill attended Swampscott High School, Swampscott, Massachusetts (1941-1945) and Marblehead High School, Marblehead, Massachusetts (1945-1946), but missed his graduation ceremony due to reporting to the Army to serve his Country. He trained at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and served in France and Germany after the shooting was over. He initially was a radio operator, using Morse code that he had learned in Boy Scouts, and was later assigned to the WWII Army of Occupation Military Police.
Bill attended the University of Connecticut and earned his bachelor's degree at Boston University and Masters at University of Indiana.
Bill met the love of his life, Elizabeth Janet Wheelock, at Boston University in 1947 and married in July 1949 and was married for 60 years until her death in August 2009. How he met Jan: A friend suggested to Bill he should say hello to Jan. They were in the school library and both wearing the same sweater.
Bill's career started as a seismologist and geologist for the U.S. Government. He worked for the U.S. Navy Hydrographic Office. He participated in Gravity observations in the Artic on an Icebreaker from Jan-Feb 1952. Bill later worked as a doodlebugger in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas. Bill worked for The Atlantic Refining Co. in Oklahoma. Bill worked as a geophysicist one year in New Orleans (1964) and moved to Bellaire (1965) to work as a geophysicist for Continental Geophysical Co., Geophysical Services, Inc., TransOcean Oil Inc., and SJM Oil and Gas Inc (1985 - 2014). Bill also worked as a geophysical consultant (WAL Inc. 1980 - 1985) in Houston with several friends in the oil and gas industry.
Predeceased by his parents, his sister Margaret & brother Donald, and brother-in law, Don.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Wrobleski and husband Mark; son William Lamont and wife Natalie and son; Daniel Lamont and wife Marcela; grandchildren Kevin (Jaclyn) Wrobleski, Kyle (Jennifer) Wrobleski, Kayla (Aaron) Brady, Misty (Trent) Kahn; Jessica (Ryan) McGahey; Brian Lamont and Sean Lamont; great grandchildren: Kade, Jaci, Kyli, and Jaxx Wrobleski; Madison, Hannah and Ryleigh Wrobleski; Ledger and Jessie Brady; Avery and Andrew McGahey and Colt William Kahn; sister-in-law Priscilla Duncan and Betty Lamont and nieces Suzanne, Marcia, Janice, Anne & nephew Doug and dear friend Jean.
Bill was a devoted, faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather; a caring and faithful member of Bellaire United Methodist Church Seekers Sunday School Class. Bill was an active volunteer in church, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels and various other community projects. Bill possessed a wonderful sense of humor.
Bill enjoyed traveling with Jan and the gang at Community National Bank (Prosperity) and attending "ALL" the activities of the children and grandchildren. Bill and Jan also loved to visit the relatives in the Massachusetts area.
The Lamont Family appreciates the loving care he received from the staff and residents of Clarewood and the staff and members of Bellaire United Methodist Church and neighborhood friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bellaire United Methodist Church. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at Bellaire United Methodist Church. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bellaire United Methodist Church "Property" Endowment Fund, 4417 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX 77401.
