William R. "Billy" Tuck Obituary
William R. "Billy" Tuck, a member of the "Greatest Generation" and a complete southern gentleman, died in his sleep on Wednesday, the 26th of June 2013, three months before his 97th birthday.
Billy was born in Athens, Georgia, on the 16th of September 1916. He was the widower of Betty Unger Tuck and Ann McGonagill Tuck. He was a member of St. Martin's Church where he enjoyed bible studies and the activities of "OPUS" (Older People Up to Something). He was a longtime member of Lakeside Country Club where he and Ann enjoyed being left handed golfers in their right minds.
Billy graduated from the University of Georgia and after a brief stint on the family farm, he entered the US Army. After 26 years of service that included campaigns in North Africa, Italy and Germany, he retired as a Colonel. He continued his career with Lockheed which allowed him to visit and reside in many exotic places including Japan and Korea. Upon his retirement from Lockheed in 1980, he and Ann moved to Houston where they resided to the present.
Billy is survived by his children William R. Tuck Jr. of London, England, Catherine Ingalls of Phoenix, AZ, and Suzie Tuck of Los Angeles, CA; and his step-children, Frank E. McGonagill III of Franklin, TN and Nancy Ruth McGonagill of Houston, TX; as well as his sister, Rene Alexander of Ayer, Massachusetts.
The family would like to thank the 4th floor staff of the Forum-Memorial, especially Janese, Fay and Juan.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, 1000 George Bush Dr. W, College Station, TX, 77845.
