Dr. Wm. J. "Bill" Roberts Obituary
Dr. Wm. J. "Bill" Roberts passed away on Tuesday, the 15th of January 2013, in Houston, after having lived a long and happy life. He was 91.
Born in Lohn, Texas to William Franklin and Linnie Lou Bell Roberts on the 6th of July 1921, he attended and graduated from San Marcos College before enlisting with the United States Navy as a Lieutenant (J.G.) during World War II. He served his country as a signal officer on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Marcus Island.
Just after the war ended he met Beatrice Baham in New Orleans, Louisiana, whom he married in December of 1945. Together they had a long and happy marriage.
They moved to Houston where he attended The University of Texas Dental Branch and here he became a very successful and well-renowned dentist, specializing in crown and bridge restoration.
He was a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, Academy of Gold Foil Operators, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Fraternity and the Lions Club, to name just a few of many.
Bill is predeceased by his daughter, Nell Roberts-Wommack; and his wife, Bea Roberts. He is survived by his daughters, Linda and her husband, Dr. Paul Setzler of Houston, and Kay and her husband Peter Robinson of Ft. Townsend, Washington; grandchildren, Sara Setzler Escheveria, Eddy Setzler, Rod Hodlik, Matthew Wommack and Vicki Fultz; and great-grandchildren, Bea Escheveria, Quinn Hodlik and Coral Fultz.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 18th of January, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A funeral service is to be conducted at half-past eleven o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 19th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where Deacon Thomas Newhouse is to officiate.
Interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Woodlawn Garden of Memories in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception at a venue to be announced during the services.
In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those desiring, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Dr. Roberts' name be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY, 10163.
