Obituary Condolences

Sept. 15, 1949 - Aug. 8, 2013

Philip "Phil" Lawrence Mullendore passed in his sleep, at the age of 64 on August 8, 2013 in Lake Arrowhead, CA. He had spent the day with friends and family; viewed a beautiful sunset and took his last nap in his easy chair.
Phil was born in Long Beach, California to Russell and Betty Mullendore, on September 15, 1949, growing up in the surrounding area until June 1964 when the family moved to Imperial Valley. He was a star football player for Calipatria High School and Imperial Valley College. After receiving his Associates Degree he went on to play for Long Beach State University and complete his Bachelors and Masters in Criminal Justice. In 1995 He received his Doctorate in criminology.
While working as a Deputy Sheriff for San Bernardino County he was assigned patrol in the Lake Arrowhead area. He and his wife moved there 40 years ago to raise their family. Phil became very involved in the community by serving on numerous local boards and commissions, volunteered with numerous organizations and was a member of the Lake Arrowhead Community Presbyterian Church. Phil was one of the founding fathers and former President and Executive Director of the California College and University Police Chiefs Association (www.ccupca.com) His experience as Campus Police Chief for Pasadena City College enabled him to participate as an expert with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in the development of the Campus Law Enforcement Course. As a recognized leader in campus safety, Chief Mullendore was often asked to provide consultation services on campus security matters for colleges and school districts throughout the nation.
Phil was passionate about spending time with his family in the mountains, around the dinner table, on railroading adventures and in his RV. Phil loved the serenity of nature and all of his loving family and friends who served as an audience to his larger than life sense of humor. Phil will be greatly missed by Florence (his wife of 41 years); his daughter Jennifer Mullendore, of Lake Arrowhead, CA; his son Philip Jr. (Misty) of St Louis, Illinois; sister Phyllis Bedwell (Robert) of Temecula, CA; his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Philip III; brothers-in-law, Richard Bates and Harvey Bates and numerous nieces and nephews.
We will all miss Phil's unique sense of humor and candid ways and his love of hauling his 5th wheel trailer wherever the road would take him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 15, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Lake Arrowhead Presbyterian Church, 351 South State Highway 173, 92352.
