Bernt Severin Pederson, 93 of Nampa, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at a local care center.
Bernt was born January 15, 1920 in Molde, Norway to Rass Rassmussen and Borghild Ostrem. Bernt was raised in Norway until the young age of 6 when he immigrated to the United States with his mother, locating in Washington State where he received his education, graduating from Enumclaw High School. He attended Washington State University for two years before enlisting in the US Army in 1941. He serviced in the Army during World War II in the 1st Armored Division and continued serving in the US Army for 23 years total. He married June Hansen in October 1946 in San Francisco, California. After his retirement from the Army, he worked in the food service industry in California for many years. In 1976 he and June moved to Gresham, Oregon where he worked for the David Douglas School District. Following his retirement from the school district they moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1996 where he has continued to reside. While in Nampa he enjoyed his retirement and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, June, of Nampa; two sons: Leonard (Emilie) of Minocqua, Wisconsin and Claud (Deborah) of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren: Leah, Leonard II, Peter, Kenneth, Matthew and Jennifer; two great grandchildren: Novotny and Karina.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, August 8, 2013 at First United Presbyterian Church, 400 Lake Lowell Avenue, Nampa, Idaho.
