Bill Lamar Johnson
September 21, 1930 - January 15, 2013
Bill Lamar Johnson died peacefully at home on January 15, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Driggs, Idaho on September 21, 1930. He was the first of four brothers born to Helen Letham and Carl William Johnson. Bill attended school in Nampa, Idaho. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Bill met Marie Green from Middleton, Idaho. They married on January 24, 1954 in Caldwell, Idaho and have three children.
Bill loved to work and play and have his family around him. He started working at the Pacific Fruit Express (PFE) at the age of 14. After 25 years, Bill left to farm. After moving to Salt Lake, Bill and Marie managed an apartment building for 13 years. Bill's last career was maintaining the buildings and grounds of the Sarah Daft Home for six years until just two months before his death.
Bill loved to be outdoors and was an avid hunter. He was an expert pool player, marksman, carpenter and handyman and shared these skills with his children and grandchildren. Perhaps more than anything, he loved to ride his motorcycle! He continued to ride, (without a helmet) into his 80s.
Bill met cancer as he met any challenge in his life, with dignity and courage. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie Green Johnson; children, Kristi, Mark and Karla Johnson Norton (Daryl); and four granddaughters, Erika, MacKenzie Clayton (Dan) Natasha and Alexa. He is also survived by brothers; Gary, Kent and Don. Funeral Services and Interment will be Tuesday, January 22 at 1:00 at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park at Camp Williams at Bluffdale, Utah.
