Bob L. Allen
June 13.1943 - July 22, 2013
Bob Allen, 70, our beloved Dad, grandpa, son, brother and friend, passed away at home with family by his side on Monday, July 22, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27th at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. The visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born June 13, 1943 in Lewiston, Utah and was the third of nine children to Reed Monson Allen and Neta Eskelson Allen. He attended schools in Cache Valley, graduating from North Cache High School in 1961. He grew up helping with the family's dairy farm in Cove, Utah. He enrolled at Utah State University for a semester before being drafted into the United States Army in 1964. Within the military he spent time in California, Oklahoma, and Germany with the 2nd 28th Artillery. He received his honorable discharge at Ft. Hamilton New York in 1966.
Before being drafted, Bob met Judy Lynn Burbank in Salt Lake City, Utah. They wrote letters back and forth while he was stationed in Germany. When Dad returned, they continued dating and married on March 11, 1967. Their family grew when their oldest daughter Jamie Lyn was born followed by their son Bob "Eric" and their youngest daughter Karie. Bob and Judy were married for 45 years until Judy's death in December of 2012.
Bob began his career with Amalgamated Sugar Company in 1968. He started at the plant in Lewiston, Utah transferring to Twin Falls, Idaho; Nyssa, Oregon; and finally Nampa, Idaho. During his employment he served many different positions including personnel and safety supervisor. After 36 years with the company, he retired in 2003.
Bob's witty personality and sense of humor attracted many friends throughout his life. Many special memories were made with his family and friends; these included camping trips, fishing and hunting excursions, fish frys, jeep and four-wheeling rides, and racing his horses at Les Bois Park. Special events that Dad enjoyed recently included a cruise with all of his siblings to celebrate his mother's 90th birthday and two vacations to Thailand.
He was an active member of the Caldwell Elks Lodge #1448 and the Eagles Lodge #3691 for many years.
Bob loved life and the people who shared it with him. Bob is survived by his children Jamie and Tom Ritthaler of Caldwell, Eric Allen of Caldwell, and Karie and Mike Yost of Meridian, his mother Neta Allen of Cove, Utah and seven siblings and their spouses , Jed (Nancy) Allen of St. George, UT; Ace (Cheryl) Allen of Caldwell, ID; Blain (Carol) Allen of Lewiston, UT; Carol (Bill) Dutro of Cove, UT; Kathy (Dale) Mildenberger of North Logan, UT; Tami (Michael) Salisbury of Kaysville, UT and Peni (Larry) Knowles of Providence, UT. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Cade (Andrea) Ritthaler, JT (Amanda) Allen-Corta, Lainey Ritthaler, Cody Allen-Corta, Ryan Wilkins and Karsyn and Kendal Yost, and two great-grandsons: Dusty and Lane.
He was preceded in death by his wife, father, and brother, Varr E. Allen.
The family would like to thank Bob's countless friends who visited and called during these last few months. You all held a very special place in Dad's heart. We also would like to thank Treasure Valley Hospice staff and Noreen Mayer for your loving care and support.
