Donald B Towery, 84, passed away peacefully of heart failure at his home in Nampa on June 10th, 2013. He was born on January 14, 1929 in Nampa Idaho to Clarence and Natalie Towery.
Don grew up in Nampa and attended Nampa schools, graduating from NHS in 1947. After a semester of college at College of Idaho he joined the Army and served 1950-1952 as part of the postwar forces in Germany, rising to the rank of sergeant.
On his return he met and married "the best thing that ever happened to me", Roberta Summit of Kuna Idaho. They were married for nearly 60 years, from August 20th 1953 until his passing. He was employed by the USPS as a letter carrier for over 30 years, retiring in 1989. Don was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, and Caldwell Men's Golf Association. He loved sports and grew up playing baseball, football, basketball; hunting and fishing; swimming and skiing; golfing and bowling; riding motorcycles. As a young man, he coached several seasons of Little League football. He pursued golf with a passion and devoted many years to perfecting his game, giving it up only when forced by failing health. He was happiest when surrounded by family. He loved being a dad and grandpa, ultimately a great grandfather-proudly bearing the title "Poppy Towery" for the past 29 years.
Don is survived by his wife Roberta, his sons Don and Tim, daughter Cindy, daughter- in-law Tammy, son-in-law Art Steward, grandsons Travis and Tyler, great grand-daughter Kenzie, all of Nampa, as well as his sisters Darlene Cornilles of Nampa, Paula Huber of Melba, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Bill and Fred.
