George Dorr Keen was born November 20, 1920 at Burley, Idaho and passed away December 17, 2013 at Chico, California at the age of 93.
Dad was the fourth of nine children born to George E. and Catherine Mikkelsen Keen. In his younger years he helped on the family farm and hunted and fished in Southern Idaho with his father and brothers. Dad was an excellent fly fisherman and taught his daughters and grandsons the art of fly fishing.
He married Inez L. Sellman on September 4, 1941. They lived in Burley where George was a manager of the Western Auto Supply Store for ten years. Daughter Letty was born in 1943 and daughter Connie was born in 1947. He left for a short time in 1944 to serve in the US Army at Fort Bliss, Texas. In 1950 he went to work for Bunting Tractor Company in Burley. He later transferred to Western Equipment Company in Boise where he retired in 1986. George and Inez moved to La Pine, Oregon and spent many years traveling and enjoying the outdoors. After Inez died in 2000 George moved to Corning, CA where he remained until his passing.
George was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of the Burley Elks lodge. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Burley, ID.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Inez, infant son Terrie Keen, brothers Orr, Ray and Jack, sister Lee Edwards, and son-in-law Mike Percifield.
Survivors include daughters Letty Percifield of Caldwell and Connie Massie (Don) of Corning, CA, five grandsons: Rob Howarth (Cindy), Jerrod Howarth (Jamie), Casey Percifield (Debbie) all of Marsing, ID, Don Massie Jr. (Morgan) Reno, NV, Jeremy Massie (Ana) Morro Bay, CA and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Charles Keen (Judy) Porterville, CA, Jerry Keen (Bernardete) Elk Grove, CA, Gale Keen (Bonnie) Twin Falls, ID and sister Georgia Wilbanks of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 29, 2013, 3:00pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Caldwell with viewing one hour prior to service. Private interment will be at Cloverdale Memorial Park at a later date.
