July 4, 1952 - June 15, 2012
Harold LaVerne Coon passed away June 15, at St. Alphonsus Hospital, as a result of complications following surgery .
Harold was born July 4, 1952 in Sandpoint, Idaho to LaVerne and Delphine Coon . He grew up in the hills above Sandpoint on the family ranch. There he learned to love being in the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, cattle drives, team roping and any activity that took him into the mountains.
Harold enlisted in the army when he turned 18 and served in Vietnam. He was proud to have served his country, and was extremely proud to be a American.
Harold married Gayle Ashcroft on July 1, 1988 in the Logan Utah LDS temple. They made their home in the Kuna area where they were blessed with two daughters, Jennie and Collette Coon.
Prior to their marriage, Harold worked in the woods falling timber, until arthritis made that no longer possible. After his marriage, Harold finished his education and worked in several different places until 2009, when he made the decision to stay home and take care of his daughters. He farmed their small acreage and enjoyed welding, wood working and working with his horses. He was most happy when he had the chance to take the horses and help move or brand cattle.
Harold was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many different positions in the Church where he touched the lives of many. He loved people, young and old, and always took the time to speak with individuals and learn a little about them. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. However, we know that he has returned to his Heavenly Father and is finally relieved from the arthritic pain he has endured for so many years.
Harold is survived by his wife Gayle, his daughters Jennie and Collette, his brother Lynn (Marilyn) Coon, and his sisters, Lorinda (Gale) Howe and Luci Whaley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20, at 10:00 a.m. in the Kuna Idaho Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located on the corner of Black Cat and Kuna Road.
