James LeRoy "Jim" Emmert
August 24, 1926 - July 5, 2013
James LeRoy Emmert, 86, peacefully went to be with the Lord on July 5, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family. Jim was born on August 24, 1926 to Dora and Edgar Emmert at their home on Deer Flat Road, Nampa, Idaho.
As a boy, he worked and played hard on the family farm. He attended the Bowmont two-room grade school through the eighth grade and graduated from Nampa High School in 1944.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 as Gunners Mate 2nd Class. He served as an anti-aircraft weapons instructor. Jim was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in August of 1946.
After coming home from the Navy, he returned to his first love which was farming. He milked cows and farmed with his dad and eventually took over the family farm. He farmed with horses until 1948 when they purchased their first tractor. Jim continued to farm until his health declined.
On February 22, 1955 he married Patsy (Pat) Reininger, who has been his "right hand man" on the farm ever since. They were blessed with four children.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling and snowmobiling. He made sure everyone in the family had a snowmobile to ride. He led the family on many adventures, including numerous trips to Warm Lake, Stanley and Yellow Pine. The family spent many weekends at their cabin in Cascade sharing great times and building memories.
He also enjoyed waterskiing. There were times he would ski in such cold weather, that he had to put on his insulated coveralls after returning to the dock.
Jim and his brother-in-law, J.R. (Junior) Martineau, loved horses. Jim's favorite horse Smokey was a wild horse from the Owyhee Mountains and was personally trained by him. Jim & "Smokey" and Junior & "Red" served as color guards for the Snake River Stampede parade and opening ceremonies for the rodeo when it was held at the old arena in Nampa.
Jim was a member of the Bowmont Church of the Brethren. It was there that he came to know the Lord as his Savior and was baptized. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Greenhurst Bible Church. He served on various committees and boards in his community and church, including the Kuna School Board for a period of four years.
Thank you Dad for the courage and strength you instilled in our lives. You were a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. You taught us the value of hard work and the joy of laughter. We were honored to walk you to the gates of heaven. We love you and will miss you greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Dora and Edgar Emmert; two grandchildren, Amanda and Andrew Post. Surviving are his wife Pat, at their home in Nampa; son Rick (Kathy) Emmert of Walla Walla, WA; daughter Jolyn (Royce) Post of Nampa; son Chris (Beverly) Emmert of Nampa; daughter Kay Gulick of Fruitland; sister Betty (Martineau) Fisher of Nampa; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
