Jay W. Gundy, born December 9, 1925, in Filer, ID to Harvey W. and Wylma Wylie Gundy and died April 21, 2013 in a Boise memory care unit. The family moved off the family farm to Nampa, ID in 1934 where he attended schools until joining the US Navy in Feb., 1944. His mother received his high school diploma for him while he was in the service.
In 1949 he married Doris Sanderson and they had a son, Thames Warren Gundy (Dellray Baker) who was born Oct. 19, 1949. They divorced shortly afterward. He married Dorothea Butler on July 4, 1953. Dorothea had a daughter, Louise Laurene Heinz (Allen Heinz) who Jay adopted in 1967. Jay and Dorothea had a daughter, Chrisanne Jae Gundy who was born Aug. 22, 1955. Jay and Dorothea divorced in 1972.
Jay married Hazel May Jenkins on Feb. 16, 1974 at Winnemuca, NV. Hazel preceded Jay in death in 1996. Hazel had two sons, Randy Lattimer and Alan Lattimer who became part of Jay's family. Alan passed away in 2008, leaving behind his wife, Penny and son, Ryan.
Jay worked in his early career as a mechanic. Later he became a gas setter for Intermountain Gas Co. where he worked for about ten years. In 1959 he became a salesman for Graybill Wholesale Co. in Nampa, ID. Later he became a partner in the company and retired in 1987.
He was a member of the Christian Church in Nampa and attended Memorial Park Baptist Church in Caldwell, ID for many years. Jay was a member of the Nampa and Caldwell Elks Clubs and Nomads. He was also a member of IOOF, the American Legion, Mt Moriah #39, and the Royal Arch Masons in Caldwell, the Shrine Club, El Korah Temple, Grand Commandery and Grand Council. He was Master of the Blue Lodge twice and High Priest of the Royal Arch for one year.
He leaves behind his friend and companion, Maxine Drake, as well as his four remaining children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Gladys Cornell and Warrine Cottrell and a brother, Jack Gundy (Rose). He passed away on the 18th birthday of his youngest granddaughter, Jaya. He will be missed, but we all know that he is in a better place and the pain and suffering has ended.
Jay asked to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at the Caldwell Elks Lodge, 1015 N. Kimball, Caldwell, ID, on June 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM.
