Phillip DeLoy Panter, 72, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, July 31 2014.
He was born January 18, 1942 to Thomas DeLoy and Rada Peterson Panter in Soda Springs, Idaho.
He married Nila Ree Mickelson on May 27, 1960 in Soda Springs, Idaho. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple.
Phillip grew up in Idaho. He joined the Air Force at 18 and lived in Utah, attended Basic Training in Texas, then lived in Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, Alaska, Missouri and then back to Alaska, Utah then retired in Mesquite, Nevada. Phillip received his associated degree in firefighting.
Phillip was active in the LDS Church. He was one of the seven presidents of 70 in Missouri. He was a High Priest, ward mission leader, taught various classes, was a councilor in the Bishopric. He enjoyed his temple and genealogy work with his beloved wife.
He spent 48 years of Fire Fighting. In the beginning of his career he earned his flight wings. He spent a year deployed in Shemya, AK, a year deployed in Thailand during Vietnam War. He was a crew member on a rescue chopper in Thailand. After he retired from the Air Force he was a Fire Tech for Sohio, Standard Alaska & a Fire Chief for B.P. Oil Co. on the Alaska Pipeline.
Phillip enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. He also loved fly-fishing, reloading. He was a gun enthusiast and also enjoyed golfing and especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Nila Mickelson Panter, and two sons and 6 daughters, Craig & Katie Panter of West Point, UT, Shane Panter of Logan, UT, Andrea & Darin Mathews of Evanston, WY, Meloney & Ken Rasmussen of Grace, ID, Cynthia & Mark Smith of Anchorage, AK, Felicia & Shawn Breshears of Monarch Beach, CA, Susette & Clint Trickett of Riverton, UT, Tiffany & Colby Lamb of Bountiful, UT. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one brother, Jim & Debbie Shand, one sister, Linda Panter Mickelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Tony Panter, a sister, Mary Ann Lee, and a son Kelly Phillip Panter.
Services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center. The family will visit with friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs and also on Monday morning from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to services. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery.
