Arthur 'Art' Richard Howell passed away peacefully on July 2 at Plantation Place Assisted Living in Boise.
A resident of Boise since 1987, Art was born in Manhattan, Montana, and raised in Coos Bay, Oregon, where he graduated from Marshfield High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, and served in Europe until his honorable discharge in 1945. He attended college on the G.I. Bill, graduating from the University of Oregon in 1950. That same year, he began work in sales for General Mills, where he was employed until his retirement in 1985, and he wed Dona Howard, with whom he was lovingly married until her death in 2007.
Art was an avid fisherman and loved to travel. He and Dona enjoyed many trips throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. He also enjoyed reading and movies. Family and friends loved him for his kindness and his sharp sense of humor.
Art is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Daryl Williams of Placerville, California; sons Mark Howell of Placerville, California, and Kevin Howell of Eagle; and his Shih Tzu companion Mia. His ashes will rest beside his wife Dona's at the Idaho State Veterans' Cemetery in Boise.
