"Bud" August F. Kratzmier Obituary
"Bud" August F. Kratzmier
1923 - 2014
"Bud" August F. Kratzmier, 91, of Boise Idaho passed away in the VA Community Living Center on Monday, August 11, 2014 from cancer. Bud was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 22, 1923. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17. He served in the US Navy in both WWII and the Korean War. At age 18, he was captured by the Japanese during a raid on the Philippines. He was a POW in a Japanese prison camp during WWII and spent nearly four years performing hard labor. In 1953, Bud received the Bronze Star for his heroic rescue of a fellow soldier during an amphibious assault on the shores of Korea.
Bud retired from the Navy after 20 years of service and began his work in the public sector. He retired at age 58 and began traveling the US in his RV with his favorite dog, Mopsy. During his 30 years of RV-ing, he visited every state in the US. He could be seen with his RV and Goldwing motorcycle as he ventured from state to state. He enjoyed his retirement to its fullest. He had a kind and wise spirit to the very end and his humor will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
Visitation will be held at Cloverdale Funeral Home on Sunday, August 17 from 2-4pm. Funeral services will be held at Idaho's Veterans' Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014.
