Harold Howard Ross I
1942 ~ 2014
Harold Howard Ross I, 71, passed away peacefully March 14, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. His loving family and nurse stood vigil over him with great tenderness and care as his spirit was gently lifted to a better place - free from the complications of this disease.
Howard was born in Ogden, Utah on December 6, 1942 to Elbert and Elzina Ross. As a young boy, he and his family traveled from place -to -place before settling in Gooding, Idaho.
He showed rabbits and dairy cows at the state fair and worked on a local farm through high school. Shortly after finishing high school, he served a mission for the LDS church in Scotland. In 1965, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and served many capacities including marksman and sharpshooter. He married Joyce Osterhout Sweat in 1966 and became a father of her 2 girls, Robin Anderson and Tina Roseborough. They later had 6 additional children, Natalie Wilson, Becky Konrad, Jacqi Norton, Howie Ross, Brad Ross and Nicke Cutler. To provide for his family, he reconditioned vehicles which cultivated his passion for cars. He started his career as a car salesman at Hanzel Motors in 1974 selling Chevrolet, Buick and Oldsmobile, which he thought were the best! He later worked for several car dealerships in the Magic Valley, including Larry Larsen, Don Ovitt, Bonanza Motors, Kim Hansen and Westland Motors before opening his own car dealership - Over-Land Auto. He later moved to Boise and continued selling cars for Larry Miller before retiring. Howard was an avid BSU Football fan and enjoyed following the team throughout the season. He also loved the outdoors and taking his family hunting, fishing and camping. His children were a constant source of his admiration until he passed away.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Elzina Ross and sister Deone Ross. He is survived by his siblings: Darlene (Ernie) Passey, Bud (Donna) Ross, Elaine (Warren) Cox and by his children Robin (Mike) Anderson, Tina (Bruce) Roseborough, Natalie (Jeff) Wilson, Becky (Darin) Konrad, Jacqi (Shannon) Norton, Howie Ross, Brad (Candy) Ross, Nicke (Spencer) Cutler, (14) grandchildren and (7) great grandchildren.
His final days were spent in the care of a compassionate and gentle nursing staff at Marquis Care Center and Journey's Hospice. The family is sincerely grateful for their tender care that they provided for our beloved father, brother, uncle, grandpa and great grandpa. We will miss him dearly.
Services are under the direction of Aclesa Funeral Home (Boise, ID) and Hansen Mortuary (Rupert, ID). Graveside funeral service will be held Friday, March 21st at 3:00pm at the Rupert Cemetery.
Howard often made jokes about his tremors saying that he could work for Dairy Queen making milkshakes to help make light of his disease. The family would like to request any remembrances be donated, in his honor, to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation to help find a cure for this debilitating disease.
