He attended school in Rupert, Idaho and graduated from Rupert High School in 1953. After high school Jarl attended the University of Oregon. He made many lifelong friends and was proud to be a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He went on to attend The University of Oregon Dental School in Portland, Oregon. There he met his best friend, and love of his life Shirley Pauline Hanson. They were married December 27th, 1958 in Watertown, South Dakota.
Jarl graduated from dental school in 1960 and then he served his country by joining the Navy. When his time in the service was over he moved his family back to Idaho. He started his own dental practice in Caldwell, Idaho where he worked for 6 years. He then moved his office to Boise where he continued practicing dentistry for 27 more years.
During his life Jarl was also active in his community. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Rockies Methodist Church for 45 years and served on many committees and boards. Jarl was a member of Crane Creek Country Club for 43 years. He served on social committees, but, most days you could find him on the tennis courts, or golf course cultivating the many friendships he had built while being a member.
Jarl loved life, and the outdoor lifestyle that Idaho offers. He was an avid skier, hunter, tennis player, and golfer. If possible he would fit at least two of these activities into any given day. Over the years he spent many hours attending the activities of his children, and grandchildren. During his retirement he could be found at countless school performances, ballet recitals, and ball games supporting his grandchildren. All of these events provided him with opportunities to make new friends and share the many stories that he had accumulated during his lifetime. The greatest joy's in Jarl's life were his faith and his family.
Jarl is survived by his wife Shirley, his children Joan Gibson (daughter), Eric Gibson (son), Kari Gibson-Bedal (daughter), and James Bedal (son-in-law), and his two grandchildren Karl Bedal, and Lauren Bedal. He is also survived by his sister Deloris Loveland and many nieces and nephews.
